18 Oct Series Six
Hello Family! I can see my prayer life changing as the weeks go by. I am learning so much that give me a new perspective on prayer.
This week the principle shared was this:
God is not interested in our religious behavior and performances. He wants us to seek Him simply, sincerely and earnestly, He knows that we are mere humans and meets us where we are at our point of need.
We looked at the story of Elijah who held his own against the prophets of Baal and challenged them to a confrontation between their God and the God of Israel. Well you know who won! God showed up in a way that put the prophets of Baal to shame. After they had shouted for hours for their god to show up and consume the sacrifice they had set out there was no sign of their God. When they finally gave up God showed up in a fire that consumed the sacrifice that had been laid out including the water and the rocks! Elijah’s prayer was simple while the prophets of Baal had made an elaborate display that produced no results, no answer from their god.
So after God showed up in such a great way Jezebel threatened Elijah’s life and he went into severe depression— and we learned after the greatest victories or before the greatest breakthroughs the enemy attacks.
The principles we learned this week were rich.
- God understands when we grow weary and makes provision for our recovery.
God’s word to us is so comforting when He says, “Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” Matthew 11:28
- God’s ears are open to our requests and He waits to address our concerns.
We have the assurance that “The eyes of the Lord are over the righteous, and his ears are open unto their prayers.” 1 Peter 3:12
- God gives the compassion, grace and help we need in order for us to complete the assignment he has given us.
It is so good to know that “This High Priest of ours understands our weaknesses, for he faced all of the same testings we do, yet he did not sin. 16 So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most.” Hebrews 4:15
Ask yourself:
What has caused you to grow weary?
In what ways have you felt alone?
In what way do you need to be restored?
Remember that God promises to be there for you…
